I though ranma went into some Cat-fu mode when he saw a cat and 
attack things or whatever.    

	Not immediately, he either runs away or, if the cat
sticks to him *physically* for a while (on his head, on his
face, etc) he goes into cat fu mode. On the phoenix pill
story arc, on the beach, akane stuffed Shampoo-neko to
Ranma-chan's face for a moment and *then* she became
"Ranma-chan-neko"; Shampoo-neko had been tied to
Ranma-chan's back for a while, but she hadn't transformed.
I think there has to be a certain level of desperation or
hopelessness (about getting free from the cat) to be able to
transform. Comments?
