No thanks to the REALLY magical dagger and sword wielded by said
assassin. Now, where'd the character sheet go? Actually, Drizzt was a
MUCH better fighter than the assassin. But, his +4 defender (twinkle) wasn't
as magical as the assassin's dagger and sword.
What were those things? Do you have the stats on
those weapons? What are the limitations on the defender? I
would have thought that +4 is a hell of a bonus!
Oh, +4 defender, in AD&D 2nd ed. rules lets you use up to 3 of the
+ to attack bonuses to add to your AC. (e.g. if you use 2 bonuses, the
sword becomes +2, and you get a +2 to your AC) The wielder can choose
each round. Now, I can't remember what the fire-eater was, though it was
a nasty Ice Brand of some type. The dagger used by Entreti was a +3 or +4
dagger of venom, and his sword was equally nasty.
The dagger was a Vampiric Dagger of Venom +4 or better. To put in it in
real terms, it went through chain mail like it was paper, and the poor
sap couldn't retaliate for the pain.
The major power of the dagger was to heal and kill at the same time.
Basically, half the damage you inflict, you healed.
The Sword was I believe a Vorpal. (Cuts through just about everything).
Nasty as it is, but at least it had a command word.
Just for the record,
