I'm not an expert on BGC. But what are the chances of the wearer surviving a blow powerful enough to breach the hardsuit?

Depends on how large a breach we're talking.  There are several instances 
(AFAIK) where the suits get breached from weapon impacts...and the wearer 
suffers relatively minor injury.
