Maybe the curse of the ponds/wells/holes with water affects anything 
living thrown in... ie, water over head, and the curse will affect the 
person... According to the legend, you don't have to touch the water, 
just fall in the well...  Of course, I guess getting touched by it would 
work too...

Side note...  Isn't it nice that when the wearer is incapacitated, the 
suits save themselves? ;)

Best guess is that the cursed water will penetrate the armour and that 
the tentacles merely insert the object to be experimented with. ;)
