Yes, I agree that there's an awful lot of *sad* Ukyou fanfics about.
I guess this is because R.T. never gave Ukyou a really good
alternate love interest. Konatsu? Yeah, right. I mean AFAIK,
he still thinks he's a girl and Ukyou just feels a sort of pitying
friendship for him. Before vol. 35, I kept hoping (and praying) that
R.T. would give Ukyou a really nice "maybe" boyfriend, sorta
like Shinnoskue for Akane. Unfortunately this didn't happen, and
we got the whole transvestite/transexual thing gone overboard.
Another reason would be is that Ukyou is the sensible fiancee who knows
that her chances are extremely slim. She knows that she'll
probably never be more that a good friend to Ranma. This has
got to make her a somewhat tragic character. She knows, but
what can she do?
Again, since Ukyou doesn't seem to have any other love
prospect so a lot of authors just put her in a sad story. If I had
the time (maybe this summer!), I'll definitely write a *happy*
Ukyou story! :)

Has anyone noticed that Ukyo is a favorite target for tragic fanfics?
There's "Stepping stones", "Death of Ukyo", "Lies", she goes berserk in
"Ranma 2093", I used her as Gory-demonstration-character in "Smoke and
Mirrors"....I wonder why?
Perhaps because she's so normal. Everyone wants to keep the crazies
around, they're good entertainment, no? She's the only character that has a
truly sad life, right? Her only true friend will never be anything more
than that; but she still hopes and dreams...

[Win95]: Just how many tragedies have you read recently?
Well, let's see... Othello, Death of a Salesman, the Glass Menagerie,
Macbeth... and I was just listening to "Old Man" by Neil Young.
[Win95]: Try putting in Counting Crows... (Maybe it'll kill him)
What was that...?
