In Ranma's case, I think the trauma for his bloated male ego would
be even more devastating than most people could imagine.  Remember
that his masculenity is one of his most sensitive points.  To have
such a brutally forceful reminder of his gender problems could quite
potentially permanantly "damage" his mind.  I don't believe that
Ranma's reaction in the fanfic was inappropriate at all.
