Thanks for all your help on subscribing to r.a.a.c.  My sysadmin may or 
may not add it to our news server - something about what kind of 
"feeds" they get.  He did point out the newsgroup called 
"rec.arts.anime.stories" - is this the same thing?

rec.arts.anime.stories was renamed to R.A.A.C (rec.arts.anime.creative)

I finally accessed it through Compuserve.  I tried posting a message 
there - no response.  I tried browsing for messages - nothing.

I understand it's a moderated group - how often does it get updated?

It ebbs and flows, some days 2 or 3 new ones, others 20 or more, then you
might have a long dry spell.

I'm not sure what Zoner's critera are for taking care of any back log.  I do
know he does this in his spare time and that some times his job just takes
up all his time.
