Gad, I can't believe I came up with this...

How about an amalgam of Ranma 1/2 and Peter Pan?

The character pairings I came up with:
(And if the description of the characters seems unfamiliar,
perhaps you should read J.M.Barrie's original book _Peter and
Wendy_ - it's for adults more than for children!)

Peter Pan, the cocky, arrogant, self-centered brat
who nevertheless manages to be lovable in it:

Ranma

Captain Hook, the refined gentleman and formidable
fighter who is so fond of *good form*:

Kunou

Smee, the hard-edged, dangerous pirate who is
still loved by everybody:

Ryouga

Tinker bell, the fairy with a crush on Peter and a
vicious streak of jealousy (She tried to *kill*
Wendy by convincing the lost boys to shoot her out
of the air with arrows!):

Kodachi (Hey, she could dress in black rose
petals)

Tiger Lily (I think), the female chieftain of the
indian tribe and a warrior to be reckoned with:

Shampoo?

Wendy, the mother-like, caring, patient girl:

Kasumi fits this more than Akane, what a pity.

The tick-tock croc:

"Midorigame", Kodachi's pet crocodile.

Hmmm, Akane could be one of the Lost Tomboys. Come to think of
it, Ukyou could, too. The pirates could be played by Ranma's
assorted enemies. The mermaids should not be cast by Takahashi
characters - It's a children's story after all. :)

Can anyone remember more major characters and bring up suggestions
how they could be cast?

Sebastian (Yes, I love _Peter and Wendy_ - I *hate* the Disney
           flick)

We can defeat gravity. The problem is the paperwork involved.
