story answer:  like the guy whispering into Ryouga's ear, it
was just a vague dream manifestation.  I didn't make it that
clear because I wanted to concentrate on Ryouga and Akari.
In other words, he was a plot device. ;-)

real answer:  He was Billy the Mountain dressed up like
Donovan, and the voice in Ryouga's ear was Studebaker Hoch
dressed up like Jim Pons.  See the movie _200 Motels_ if
you have no idea what I'm talking about.  This was the subtle
Zappa ref I was talking about (Does This Kind of Life Look
