In colorized pics from the manga, just about everyone's hair color is
completely unspecified. I have four of the original japanese manga volumes
here, and just on these four covers female Ranma's hair is shown to be
black, red, pink, orange, and purple. It's my impression that in color
manga pics, hair color is whatever the artist felt like drawing at the time,
and not meant to be taken literally at all.
That is true, for the manga compilation covers.
However, in the Shonen Sunday, the first few pages of each episode is in
color. On these pages, the hair color is consistently matched to the
anime. There's a few differences, the largest being that Akane's hair
is more blue than blueish black, but aside from that it's the same.
I've only seen later Shonen Sundays, and the hair color could have been
selected in response to the anime...but so what. Takahashi draws
Ranma-chan's hair red, 'nuf said.
And BTW, what's wrong with Nabiki calling Kunou "Kunou-baby?" I was
under the impression this was the translation of "Kunou-chan," which she
consistently calls him to point out that Kunou is younger than she is.
