Personally I say go with the Tendo Ranma bit. Just because it's different
doesn't mean it's bad. I will admit it seams a little awkward, but that's
probably more to do with the fact that "I'm" not used to thinking that way!

A lot of the Ranma fan-fics seem to be ging down the same trails, it's nice to
read something that tries a different path.
