: The Ranma 1/2 Fan Fiction *Error* Drinking Game
:
: NAMES AND LANGUAGE:
: If the author mixes romanization styles (translating the same vowel
: to "o" or "ou" depending on the name, for instance) 1 drink
Ooops! I do that. But I only vary for words that are suitably
ingrained in the english language (like "Dojo" and "Tokyo").
Otherwise I try to be aware of when it should be "ou"
: MARTIAL ARTS SKILLS:
: Nodoka is skillful with her katana 1 drink
Isn't she? I know she fumbled the katana when she first met
Ranma, but that was more comic neccessity than an actual proof of
her skill. Is it shown or implied later, that she is no good?
Doesn't matter to me anyway, since in my story she *definitely* is
skilled - she had reasons to train. :)
: Akane is a match for any trained character (except Kunou) in a regular
: battle (no slaps, no special circumstances) 1 drink
Now, what does that mean? In a *regular* battle with a *regular*
trained martial artist, she would definitely be able to hold her
own. Anyone, who can defeat a horde of partially armed,
*determined* boys without even getting hurt (and on a daily basis,
no less), is a fighter to be reckoned with.
The fact that Ranma attracts highly (read: superhumanly) skilled
martial arts masters and gets into bizzarre fights, makes Akane's
proficiency look smaller in comparison, but in a regular battle
(i.e. rules and no superpowers) she would be quite skilled.
: CHARACTERIZATION:
: Ranma hits any (real) girl while he is a guy 1 drink
Why the modifier? Does he lose that inhibition when he turns into
a girl? I doubt it, since he *insists* that he's a guy, no matter
what form he's in.
: If anyone commits suicide 2 drinks
: ... Ukyou 1 drink
: ... Happousai Finish the glass, then cheer
: ... everyone Finish the glass, then kill the author
... the author of above fanfic see Happousai
: VISUALS:
: Hammerspace is actually used to store something (including a hammer) 1 drink
I first heard the word "hammerspace" in the fanfic _Making the
Jump_ by Mike W. Loader. I was a little confused, trying to
figure out what the joke was about a kind of hyperspace being
called *hammerspace*. When the realization hit me, I almost fell
off the chair, laughing.
Considering the manga, it might as well have been "Bucketspace",
the way the characters always seem to be able to trigger each
other's curses in any circumstance.
: COOKING:
: Akane being totally unable to cook any food 1 drink
Well, she is at least unable to cook *edible* food. The only time
I can remember her producing anything non-lethal, was when she
unknowingly used the Water of Life.
: Ranma and the gang going to China with no explanation of where they
: got the money 1 drink
Hmm... it's no more illogical than the fact that they never
*seriously* tried to go there in the series.
: If someone falls in the drowned girl pool and looks just like Ranma,
: with no explanation of why 1 drink
Didn't Takahashi-san do that with the monkey in the Musk Dynasty
storyline? (I was told. I didn't see it.)
: If Gosunkugi's magic actually works without some explanation of why 1 drink
I thought it didn't work because he never gets to finish the
ritual. He's always interrupted.
: If Ukyou tries to kill somebody (not a villain) 1 drink
: ... and it's not fanfic, but is written by Takahashi Rumiko Finish the glass
Now, first of all, Ukyou isn't really such a nice girl as
everybody seems to want her to be. True, she's more likely to
scheme and "arrange matters", than to use actual violence, but
she's not just sugar and spice...
As for the final manga part, I'll fight to the death:
SHE DIDN'T TRY TO KILL AKANE!
Take the relevant panels from the manga: Ranma is running away
from Akane to get his hands on the Nannichuan water. When he is
well away from her, suddenly two projectiles are homing in on him.
They explode and we see Shampoo and Ukyou. Shampoo says something
like "Aya--a! I missed Akane!" and Ukyou "I'm not out of
celebration modern yaki, yet!" (from memory)
Now, can we really assume that *both* aimed for Akane and *both*
missed? Especially if it seems so out of character for Ukyou?
Just look at the angle of the two projectiles. Shampoo's shot is
flying fairly straight and may very well have been aimed at
somewhere else if Ranma hadn't gotten in the way. Ukyou's yaki on
the other hand comes in from above at an angle. It looks as if it
was *meant* to land where it did.
Therefor I am confident in declaring that Ukyou never stooped to
that level. She just tried to disrupt the wedding - not kill the
bride. (Except in a general "Don't care who it hits" kind of way.)
Do not try to argue this with me unless you are prepared for a
demonstration of ultimate stubbornness. Even Kun-chan failed to
sway me.
