So much as I like the sound of Tekima, I think I'll be renaming him. 
Here are some ideas:

Sounma - after the grandfathers.  This was my first idea, but I rejected
it because it sounded so stupid.

I would have to concur on this one; it does sound kinda stupid. ^_-

Shinma - True Horse.  No particular reason, just sounds neat.

Yes, but it also sounds like a monstrous denizen of the dark from Vampire
Princess Miyu.  In fact, I think it's exactly the same word...  If i'm
remembering right, you might want to avoid this one.

Nooma - Skillful (Intelligent) Horse.  I like this because it fits how I
envision this character becoming (yes, my mind is already writing
stories where Ranma's kids have grown up).   On the other hand, the name
sounds a little weird.

Hmm.. nice derivation, but it does sound a bit odd for a guy's name.

Mikanma - Orange Horse.  Combining Akane's "Color" theme with the horse
theme.  Orange happens to be my favorite color.  Blue Horse is Aoima
(say that three times fast), Green Horse is Midorima (sound familiar?)
and Yellow Horse is Kiiroma.

IMHOP, these sound the best of all the name's you've mentioned.  I like both
Mikanma and Kiiroma.  Plus, either of those colors might symbolize sunlight,
which you could tie back into the intelligence theme.. (Well, ok, that's a
stretch.) 

I could chuck all of the above and go far a traditional Japanese name,
too.

My only other comment is that you never know where you're going to find a
good name.  I spent ages looking for an interesting Japanese-derived name
for an original character in a fanfic I'm working on, when I happened to
stumble across the perfect name while on vacation in Ireland.  It's ancient
Irish: "Aislinn", meaning 'vision' or 'dream'.
You probably wouldn't want to resort to something like that for a character
born in Japan, but hey, this is anime; anything can an does happen. ^_^
