Hmmm... come to think of it, where does it show? I know they are
really good friends, probably even closer in turns of friends than Ranma
is to Akane, but does it really ever states Ranma likes Ukyou over, say,
Shampoo? I can't deny that they like each other friendwise, but what
about as a couple?
.... I really don't see the relevance of that point. Ranma *LIKES*
Ukyou, the manner in which he likes her doesn't matter for the purposes
of the story.
Too level an accusation of being OOC at Ranma you would need to show that
Ranma was being overtly romantic rather than showing concern for his
best friend who had just been posessed, forced to attack Ranma and almost
killed. Under the circumstances of the story... I fail to see any
grounds for your complaint.
I'm sure there was something that bothered me. I think it was the fact
that Akane was all worried and searched for Ranma and that the author
didn't touch on that. I understand Ranma's concern for Ukyou, but as I
remembered Ranma didn't talk to Akane much about how she was concerned
of Ranma's disappearnace. Similarly, shouldn't Ranma talk to Akane who
was worried as Ranma disappeared all the sudden?
There was no reason to talk before, and no opportunity afterwards.
I may be wrong, of
course. After reading so many of them consecutively my memories is
beginning to fail me. Assuming I remembered the story correctly, then I
think the author should've touched on that part.
Ranma almost never takes other peoples opinions into account when he is
acting, he reacts after he's realised that he's done something to hurt
their feelings. In this case he went off on his own without thinking
that he needed to tell anyone, he was planning on coming back victorious
after all. As things turned out, he was right.
Honestly, it was
probably the statement at the end showing the author's perference that
made my opinions a bit opinioniated.
You do seem to have a low tolerance for viewpoints that don't suit your
picture of the Ranmaverse. It's a common enough trait.
The worst you could accuse the story of in this regard is that it offers
a reasonable starting point from which the author could develop an Ukyou
- Ranma relationship in later stories. And by your own definition, that
*IS* allowable.
Yes it is allowable. I just wanted the author not to leave Akane out
of the picture. While I'm certainly not advocating for Ranma and Ukyou,
I don't particularly hold anything against it, as long as the story
isn't developed so that Akane gets left behind for no apparent reason
and such. Mind you, Nemesis wasn't like that, but it still bugged me
that Akane was ignored. Of course Ukyou deserved her attention, after
being throuhg that ordeal, but it made me wonder how much of an effect
it had on Akane, being worried about Ranma and stuff.
Ahh... given the way the story worked I personally don't see that details
about Akane are in anyway relevant, and they would have interfered with
the flow of the story signifigantly (IMHO). I think you're letting the
fact that you like Akane distort your judgement.
That your favourite character doesn't get as much attention as you would
like is a valid reason to dislike a fic, but is a very poor thing to use
as a criticism.
