1. What are the court proceedings for a trial?
2. Is there a Prosecuter and a Defender?
3. Is there a jury and how is a verdict reached?
4. How is a sentence determined and announced?

Well, you know how the U.S. has that "innocent until proven guilty"
aphorism? Well, the Japanese version of it is "guilty until proven
innocent."

When police capture a suspect, they put them in a small cell, smaller than
armspan, for about 17 years, then they have a trial.

That's overstated...but the Japanese do make life a lot more difficult
for suspects than the American court system.
