For those of you who have read my revengefic, there is probably
something that needs to be explained here... namely, the story's
origins.
When I first conceived Bubblegum Collision, I found myself wondering
what would happen if the Knight Sabers came into conflict with someone
like me. (not me, mind you... just someone basically similar in
personality). Not wanting to be accused of writing an otakufic (though
now I realize that it is pretty much what I was setting out to do), I
made the character female. Thus Christine was born.
Actually, this is probably how a lot of writers first create their
characters. I know this is how a lot of my characters first come into
being - Male or Female. After the first stages of development, though,
they tend to grab whatever bits of my personality that fit, make up the
rest themselves and take up residence in some unused portion of my
brain. My Nate Paladine character from my 'Pact' storyline is a good
example, as I originally intended him as a romatic interest for Nabiki.
as I wrote, however, somehow he fell in love with Shampoo, and there
really wasn't a damned thing I could do about it (I had never even
CONSIDERED that particular pairing!). The same with his cousin, Alya
Paladine, who for some reason or another went after KUNOU!
It's amazing how characters sometimes run off on their own course, isn't
it? Of course, that's one of the joys of writing... having your
characters come alive.
to me, as I now had a character that was "alive" in its own right.
Christine was someone I could identify with, could sympathize with...
but she was not me.
I really do like her character. You can tell there are reasons for what
she's doing, and she's not always altruistic and good. She does some
really bad things and enjoys doing them (although she regrets them
later).
Thanks. She has certainly grown in the writing.
The rest is apparent in the writing. The character still bears some
emotional semblance to myself, but she also has some striking
differences. She knows pain and despair in ways I never have, and the
emotions which drive her are not all familiar to me. It has been a
pleasure to write this story, mainly because all the characters seem so
alive to me, and their life is something I treasure.
You should be proud of yourself. A LOT of writers never reach this point
with their characters. For instance, Piers Anthony's characters, male
and female, all are variantions on the same theme, all of them
variations of himself. ALL of them. Even if he takes a character he
previously wrote completely opposite a previous main character, he warps
them to fit the mold. Even William Shatner isn't quite THAT bad.
No, but he's pretty dog-gone close.
I hope that you all enjoy this story as much as I have, and forgive me
the rambling.
Nyaah! I rambled more than you did! And I promise to ramble even more
once I release (inflict?) my 'Heart of Glass' fic on you!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
(Sorry, I exceeded my daily quota of seriousness in the middle of this
