"Senshi" translates as "soldier" right? If it doesn't, what does it
translate as, and what is "soldier" in Japanese?
Your bang on with that transalation. Senshi does translate into Soldier,
with the biggest example being Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon -Pretty
Soldier Sailor Moon.
Anou... My Japanese Dictionary gives the following definition for senshi:
senshi: death in military action; death on the battlefield
and translates soldier thusly:
soldier: heitai
[It's the Living Language Japanese Dictionary, 3rd edition]
Could someone clear this up?
Thanks!

Sure -
Zen's WaEi Jiten (Japanese English Dictionary)
has the following:
Senshi - Death in battle
from the kanji:
Sen (#526) Meaning Fight or War, and
Shi (#286) Meaning Death
and
Senshi - Soldier or Warrior
from the kanji:
Sen (#526) Meaning Fight or War, and
Shi (#494) Meaning Warrior, Scholar, or Man
Senshi, then DOES mean Soldier or Warrior.
Senshi, on the other hand, means Death in Battle
They are two different words - the Romajii just happens to be identical.
Hope that helps -
