Ok this time I remembered to stick the header on the story...yeah I know
what a thrill...
Ok, I had a header to stick on all of these that was spell checked and
looked nice. Had is the important word. Apparently I didn't ftp it up
and now its history. Oh well, now you get to enjoy my lovely spelling...
Most of the characters in this fic belong to Rumico Tahakashi,
everything else is mine, especaly the bad grammer and Mrs. Spellings.
Bla bla bla.
Please C&C, especaly grammer and spelling. Bla bla bla. This fic is
in parts to avoid that choppy feel you get if I try to claim it was all
written in one sitting and not over a period of...uh...a long damn time.
Anyway here it is in nice bite sized chunks for your reading pleasure...
Matthew Trotter, 166 fanfics in my mailer, 166 fanfics

Escape From Nerimia

Part two: Back Off
--------------------------
Oh baby, pretty baby
Oh honey, you let me down honey
-Guns N' Roses
--------------------------
"Look, Kuno baby, if we are going to be a couple we have to get a few
things strait. First of all, just because we are dating doesn't mean I
can't talk to other boys. You need to lighten up on the tradition, in my
business there's no room for sexism. The boys provide even better income
than the girls. Second, if your going to date me, you need to get over
this women are seen but not heard thing. I am your equal. You should
remember it."
Tetewaki sighed, he wished he had just kept his mouth shut. But oh no.
He had to open his mouth and put his foot in it. Women are to be seen
but not heard, what corroded recess of his brain had that come out of? He
was beginning to understand Ranma's relationship with Akane a little
better now. He could see Nabiki's point, he needed to watch himself, but...
"Nabiki, I am sorry for what I said. I sometimes loose myself in the
heat of the moment. It is a blight upon the very soul of the house of
Kuno. Still, there is something that troubles me."
"Tetewaki, talk normally, or don't bother saying it."
"Yes ma'am."
"That's better, what's on your mind."
"We are a couple, are we not?"
Nabiki nodded.
"This does entitle me to worry on your behalf, does it not?"
She appeared to consider this, "I suppose so."
"Then it is allowable for me to profess a certain dislike for....,"
Tetewaki took a deep breath, Nabiki wanted him to be strait forward,
"Nabiki, I do not want you to extort money from your peers any more. It
makes me feel as if I can not take care of you, and I dislike that feeling."
Nabiki crossed her arms across her chest, "Oh, and what makes you
think you can take care of me? You hardly know anything about me. I can
take care of myself, your the one who needs a servant to look after you!"
That hurt. She knew how he felt about Sasuke. He wasn't just a
servant, he was a friend. One of Tetewaki's only real friends. She was
hitting below the belt again. She was getting more and more defensive
recently. She wanted him to change for her, but she wasn't willing to
change herself for him. It hurt more than her words. It hurt because he
was afraid she would just pull away and leave him. He had hopped to
surprise her with the invitation, but now maybe she would accept it as a
peace offering...
"Nabiki, I am sorry. We can speak of this more at another time. For
now..."
"No, I don't think we need to put this off. I think your just trying
to make up to save face."
Tetewaki wondered what he had done to make Nabiki so defensive. She
was acting completely irrational. It was scary, "Please, Nabiki, I
do not want to fight with you. I wanted to invite you on vacation with my
family. We will be visiting the High Powder Lodge over this vacation
period..."
"Oh I see. You want to get me off some where alone..."
Enough was enough, there was no way he was going to let her insinuate
that he wanted to defile her like that, "Perhaps you are right, Nabiki
Tendo. Perhaps it is best if we do not see each other over this break.
It might serve to calm you attitude, though it becomes harder and harder
for me to believe that there is anything short of ice water will quench
your temper. I will take my leave of you now, Nabiki Tendo. I am sure
there is much you wish to do. Enjoy a pleasant break."
---------
Nabiki put her head on her desk and didn't break down and cry. It
wasn't very easy. The hurt look on Tetewaki's face kept coming back to
her. She had really made a mess of things this time. Tetewaki was going
away on vacation angry with her, which meant it would take weeks for them
to make up when break was over. She couldn't believe she had treated him
like that. Even after he invited her off to a family get away. Nabiki
took a couple of deep breaths to keep the tears at bay. What was she
going to do? Every time Tetewaki asked anything of her she found herself
becoming defensive about it. Most girls would have melted when their boy
friend told them he wanted to take care of them. And there she was
telling Tetewaki she could take care of herself. Why? She knew why, it
was fear. She was scared that if she let things go to far with Tetewaki
she would be sorry later. She was scared that if she let herself be a
little more of what he wanted she would get burned. What would she do if
he left her? She didn't want to end up like one of the sappy girls in
her classes that were constantly on the rebound from another failed
relationship. The image of Tetewaki's face came back to her. Every time
she said something he listened. Every time she asked him to change he
did... Nabiki wiped away a rouge tear and got up. Watching Akane and Ranma
fight had to be better than sitting in her room and crying.
Naturally, Dr. Tofu was there repairing Ranma from her last fight with
Akane. It couldn't have gone any other way. Nabiki wanted to scream.
Crying in her room was better than watching Dr. Tofu faun over Kasumi.
Tetewaki wasn't quite that love struck, but it reminded her that she was
sitting alone. At least Kasumi didn't seem to be around right now.
Maybe there was time to get engrossed in a television program before
Kasumi showed up and set off Tofu.
Nabiki stalked through the room and turned on the television. It was
another three seconds before she heard those dreaded words...
"K..Kasumi!"
Nabiki gritted her teeth. She was beginning to hate Tofu's little
saying...
"Ono Tofu! What an incredible coincidence, meeting you here of all
places!"
Nabiki looked over her shoulder, she hadn't been expecting Morphine to
show up. The night might be salvageable after all.

"Well, Mr. Smarty-pants? How are you going to fix it this time? I
didn't even do anything. You have no one to blame for this."
Sarcasm leaned forward, "Maybe this is a bit forward of me, but what
makes you think I'm going to do anything?"
"You always fix things between Nabiki and Kuno."
"No, I just fix your screw ups."
Fellowship felt her ears burning, "I know better than that. You can't
resist it. If you don't do something Nabiki and Kuno are going to break up."
"Shit happens."
"You don't mean that!"
"Yes I do."
"Why did you ever bother to put them together in the first place?!"
"I didn't put them together, I fixed one of your screw ups. They were
going to get together anyway."
There were tears in Fellowship's eyes, "That's not fair!"
"Your beginning to get the picture now."
"Why can't the world just be happy?!!"
"Because if the world was just happy they wouldn't need you, or me and
the first one would never have gone mad and we'd all be just pictures on
a wall."
"But they can't break up! They're perfect for each other!!"
"There are people who would disagree."
"They love each other."
"Kodachi loves Ranma, I don't see you trying to put them together."
"That's not the same!!!"
"That's not the point."
Fellowship rubbed her eyes, "How can you stand to be so negative?"
"How can you stand to be so positive?"
"Why don't you look on the good side?"
"Why don't you look at the bad side? It might help you understand
people. I'm not saying that there's no good, I'm just telling you that
its the bad that matters. Watch how things work. Everyone is trying to
do the right thing, and it still goes wrong. The world's fucked. They
broke it when they built it, that's why we're here, to keep it running."
"Don't curse. And if we're here to fix it, why can't I just make
everything all right?"
"You tell me. Why can't you make everything all right?"
"You won't let me."
"Fellowship, if you could fix everything right now, I'd let you. But
you can't. Hell, they can't. There's no one who can fix all the shit
that's gone wrong..."
"Don't curse."
