It could also be possible that our friend has simply been unsubscribed.
Messages addressed directly to him would come through, but general
fanfic@fanfic.com stuff wouldn't.

My guess, if they are blocking it, would be due to volume. Someone had compared incoming traffic and noticed that XX% of incoming E-Mail traffic was
from Fanfic.com Therefore someone decides to block it before it 'flooded the
disk' or some such nonsense. Yes I know that would be a Dilbertesque solution and completely unnecessary unless this was one of the world's smallest
server drives, but I think it could happen.
