Horse is uma, although the same character can be read as "ma," which
is where Ranma's last syllable comes from. Pony is "kouma", which
means small horse. I suppose, if you really want to use the name
"Uma", you could just stick a "ko" on the ensd (umako), and it would
become a girl's name. Sort of like those two characters in Orange
Road.
