I've been avoiding this thread like the plague but I recently had a
story idea that struck me as something for script rather than prose. I
like both, even though I tend to read more prose. To me they are simply
different.
Anyway here's the idea and logic behind the script choice:
Ranma 1/2: War of the Roses (no, not a kodachi piece)
Hopefully some of you have seen the movie 'War of the Roses,' not a
perfect movie but interesting and entertaining. (Kirk Douglas, Kathline
Turner, Danny DeVito) Do you see where I'm going with this yet?
What if Ranma and Akane hated each other, despite everything
they've been through they just really couldn't get along. How could they
make each other miserable? They live in the same house, they already know
how to push each other's buttons. Who could they enlist on their revenge
crusade?
Now for the choice of script over prose: I want the reader to be
on the outside looking in. I want the story to be told in their actions,
let the reader decide what's going on and why it's going on. Where is the
point that love turns to hate? Do they really hate each other? Where is
the point where things get out of control? Is/was there a point of no
return?
I know all of these things can be done in prose, in some cases
perhaps even better, but I don't want the reader to know what the character
is thinking their motivation. I like the edge of uncertainty.
Anyway it'll be awhile before I write it, I need a bit more
outlining. Perhaps I'll start on Chapter 4 of ANK again or maybe do a
revision to Ranma 1/2: Sliders or maybe even a sequel. I dunno... when I
figure it out hopefully something will show up on the ML.
And if I don't see Ranma 1/2: Sliders show up soon I'm reposting.
If somebody out there got the full version let me know before then.
