How about self insertion fics that result in the new guy trying to solve
everyone's problems? I know this happens in RANMA a lot...

Heh... I'm actually pondering a fanfic where I insert a new female
character into the Ranma cast who causes nothing but trouble for Ranma and
co. (intentionally and unintentionally) And no, she won't be a one of
those long lost fiances if I do this.
