I'm not too sure that this would fall in the category of "Darkfic."  
Sure, it has a dysfunctional family, but there is no death beyond whet 
had happened to Nabiki's husband.  If one looks at it as a character 
study of Nabiki, one realizes that it is the result of a simple chain of 
events, nothing more.  While I'm not too sure that Nabiki would change in 
that way, I have to admit that the possibility exists.  Well, if you 
wnated my two cents, I fell a penny short. schade...
