Take the Instant
Nanniichuan fiasco. Shampoo told Ranma to give her "one more kiss",
implying that Ranma had already kissed her (assuming that Vis translated it
with any accuracy :). Akane asked "Did you kiss her?" Ranma told her, "I
didn't kiss her." (It took him a while to respond, as he was dodging signs
at the time.) Akane had already concluded that Shampoo and Ranma kissed, so
Shampoo kissed him. She never considered that possibly Shampoo was LYING!
Her mind is made up, there was kissing, and since Shampoo didn't kiss him,
he must've kissed her. BOOOM!
One problem: That isn't what happened! I have that issue right in front
of me. (Also the Viz translation.)
Shampoo asks for one more kiss as you say. Then SOUN, not Akane, gets
pissed, causing Shampoo to lie more and Ranma to deny.
WAIT FOR IT!! I didn't say _she_ got pissed yet.
Suddenly Ranma
makes a grab for the instant nannichuan, but it ends up in Akane's
hands. She asks Ranma if they kissed, not believing his denials at
first.
And then she got into a little shouting match, of two exchanges, but still
a short spat. She still formed some unwarrented conclusions based on scant
evidence, which was _all_ that this example was pointing out. Even if Ranma
lied to her about tearing up the package, her listening skills are wanting.
That's how far my example went. The rest of the exchange is beyond it's
scope.
Shampoo lies some more. Ranma grabs the instant nannichuan and
appears to rip it up -- actually he uses some sort of sleight of hand so
that the one he rips up is a fake. Akane is guilty and asks to be
forgiven. Ranma asks for a bunch of favors, which Kasumi and Soun seem
to find odd. The Dojo Destroyer points out the fake, after which Ranma
kicks him through the roof. Akane thanks Ranma for coming to save him;
then she does pound him for lying. Not for the kissing, for the lying.
WHICH HE DID DO!
True, but if she'd give him some unconditional trust in the first place, it
would never have happened, would it? :>
