If you aren't aware this would only work in a straight forward manner 
for certain measures,eg liquid measures are not neccessarly the same on 
both sides of the Atlantic.Cooking a cake using 1/2 a pint of milk 
will get very different results for a british or american measure.
With only one set of standard weights being used conversion is up to 
the local user.

This is the advantage of the metric system, it's *constant* no matter
where in the world you are. <sigh>
