Actually the story reminds me of Raistlin Majere.  The simalarities are 
uncanny.  Both are weak, coughs a lot, smart, and has a brother/sister 
that protects him.  But the only difference is that Ranma is a nice 
person and has no ambitions to become a god.

Btw, for those who don't know Raistlin Majere, pick up a book called 
"Chronicles" it was written by Weis and Hickman.  Believe me it is the 
next best thing besides anime. 

err, whoa, scary coincidence.  Hmmm, maybe I should make Ranma more
egotistical....  Just an idea.  Rasitlin Majere?  Where do authors get
names for their characters?  Heh heh
