Actually, you might want to start on Dragons of Autumn Twighlight.  It
gives a pretty good introduction to Raistlin.  I've been thinking about
this for a while, that if the Dragonlance books became a movie, it should
be an anime.  Do you agree?

I believe "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" is actually Book/Volume One of the
"Dragonlance Chronicles" trilogy.
