I got a reply from the author who didn't know what a pooftah was.
In short, a pooftah is a flamer, is a fruit, is a... gay male.

The reason why I put it in my message is when I was listing down
my items, it reminded me of one of the Monty Python sketches
where some Ozzies (Aussies) are explaining the rules of their
university to a recent transplant from England.  Sorry if I 
annoyed/confused folks with this.
