I guess I'll just have to scrounge up a copy of #28 and see what Palmer's
so excited about.

    Jeez.

    Someone said there was 1.5 jokes in the arc. I counted at least 17
    sight gags in this "Darkest" story arc. (Really 18, I forgot about
    using scotch tape to fix the 40 foot statue of the buddah. heh)

How do we know that Ryuu didn't commit suicide right after
his fight with Ranma?

   [Unrelated] If you look carefully at the artwork, throughout the
   story Ryuu looks very angry (It's the eyebrows.) in the last few
   frames he looks less angry. Perhaps it's because he's just done
   something honorable. (Not Telling Nadoka about Ranma)

As far as dark and gritty goes, the end of the Ryuu

       Kumon translates to "Anger or Anguish"

And? I'm sorry, but I think I'm missing something here.

No, I just looked up Kumon in the dictionary.
