I never try to get in the mood for fanfic writing anymore.  I tried once
and it came out so crappy I never posted it.  Usually an idea will come to
me, I'll get it started and it writes itself until the idea panders
out--then I wait around until the next idea hits me.  I have found that
inspiration  comes most often when I sit down and try to study calculus.
As a math major that's good for my writing but _really_ bad for my grades.
