where I can read up on this stuff?

I can't help you with the SM stuff but with the Yohko stuff...
1)  The difference between a youma and a mamano (in my opinion) is that a
youma is an extra dimensional being from _outside_ earth's dimensional
space.  A mamano is an evil or mischevious spirit from _inside_ earth's
dimensional boundries.  so the essential difference is that a youma is
sent from outside of earth and mamano's have always been here.

2)  The first hunter in the Mano line is in the fifth or the sixth video
(I'm not sure it's been a while) it think that the general agreement is
that the Mano family was the first family of hunters but I'm not sure if
that's right or not.

3) It's never said whether there are other demon hunter families.  We
assume so since Azusa is also a demon hunter and she got her "ring" from
her grandmother.  but no one is really sure.  Yohko, Azusa, Yohko's cousin
and Azusa 2 (from video 6) could be the only ones.  I but the general
opinion is that there are other demon hunter families out there.
