3 A different Ranma idea: Ranma manages to save the life of one of the
mythical shapechanging animals, I'll assume a fox for now. Soon afterward
a beautiful redhaired girl named Kitsune starts hanging around him. This
is of course the fox he saved who's trying to find something she can do to
help him. Naturally Akane, Ukyo, Shampoo, and Kodachi get upset about her
presence. Eventually she decides that if she teaches him the art of
Shapechanging he'll be able to gain a degree of control over his Jusenkyo
curse.

Oh wow. I LIKE this one. I only wish i could write a good story. This has
some intresting prospects. I'd love to see what Ryoga would do if he saw
Ranma change without the help of water.

Of course, you would have to give Ranma/Ryouga/everyone else REASONS to
want to change to their cursed form. Perhaps make it so that if they learn
the technique, they HAVE to switch to their other form say once every twenty
hours or something, sort of like how Odo from StarDrek DS9 has to switch back
to his true(liquid) form for a few hours every day. After all, it's no fun
if they don't have to change to their other forms occasionally, if they have
full choice in the matter.

Hmm... work it so that Ranma is taught to control the change, not halt
it. By that I mean that if Ranma is splashed, he can put off the change,
but once it takes effect he *CAN't* undo it until he's spent at least as
long in his cursed form. Likewise if he chooses to change without being
splashed, once he goes back to normal splashes won't affect him for as
long as the time he stayed in his cursed form by choice.

The curse is still in full effect, but the... more inconvienient...
changes can be put off. Ranma could go swimming as a guy or take a hot
bath as a girl, he just has to make up for it at some stage. You can try
working around the curse, but you can't outright eliminate it.
