Subject: Not quite willing to give it a rest (was Re: Tags needed for violent sexual content?)

Having read the "end" of this thread a few 50 posts above the last, I'm
just going to get my two cents in, and hopefully no one will flame me,
Switch, and my big mouth.

I think this hullaballoo actually started not only with Gary Kleppe's
"Lost", which posted before I got on, but with Shadow Dancer's "Happy's
Delight" now entitled "Happy's Legacy". His solution to the problem was
to create a pre-reader list, which has a fair amount of people on it, me
included. He had opened it such that other people on the list can post
any of their dark-style stories there. I have that to thank for the
growth the fanfic that I was carrying with me like a time bomb.

A while back, on ronin ML, I posted something which carried the header:
"[ronin] [FF] [R.5] [LEMON] [DARK] The Title is..." I think the title
mostly came out, but it came to me as very unwieldly made.

Yes, it has a rape scene. Two of them. On scene. Chapter 1 only.

Now, I came up with the sex scenes after I had mistakenly posted a
segment of the fic without the dark or lemon parts, and I had very
wrongly assumed that people would hound me for not coming up to the
full of the tags. Reading this thread, I thought back, Boy, was I
wrong.

I believe that the tags would help, but that it wouldn't be necessary
to create a totally new one. If you read [DARK] [LEMON] on the same
header, unless it were a really long story, you can assume that the
dark and the lemon parts go hand in hand, i.e. some sort of terribly
brutal sex is going to happen.

Rape is, to me, a form of brutal sex. I am all against it. But, the
type of story is not really new in society. In fact, I'm lifting the
connection from my pre-concieved notions of mob stories. Maybe having
watched too much "tentacle stories" can do that, too, but there has
been a notable abscence of it from the list.

Now, I am not encouraging people to write stories because they've never
been written before (what am I saying? Of course that's why stories
are written), but I am suggesting that those who do plan to write stories
of a nature which you can be sure of will give you flames galore, use
this small rule of thumb: warn. Warn again. Deliniate what it is that
might cause the friction, without too much detail. Put in the appropriate
tags, and then reread the whole thing. Then I you are sure that you'd
want to send it, and are willing to get flamed, humiliated or severely
criticized (not all of which happen here, but you must be prepared, after
all), then send it all. Then wait.

Since Gary put in an appropriate disclaimer in "Lost", I put in not only
an appropriate disclaimer in mine, but one which is longer than a page.
With a title like "Whoremonger", you'd expect to tread carefully. It goes:

Hey, ronin people! This reads [LEMON] [DARK]. If the
heading is familiar, you may recall that the original
"teaser" was not really dark, or lemony. I've changed that.
If you don't want to read anything with any of those two tags,
or anything written for/in the Ranma "multiverse" or by me,
Switch of NFTZu, please delete it. This blurb was made long
so that you won't have to see anything that could offend.

OK. This is it. With a lot of thank yous for Shadow Dancer,
who helped me get the courage to do this, and because he
opened a list based on a fanfic based on an idea. To ideas.

This post includes the original posting of the "teaser", so
if it doesn't really sound like RED-GRAY ACID, tell me. Too
much detail, not enough detail, wrong detail, "he/she can't
do that" and "you suck" C&C can be mailed straight to me,
unless there's something you'd like to tell everybody else
(although we can do with a little less "you suck" flames and
more "you suck because..." C&C)

Also, my original offer stands: I just do Chapter one, and
anyone else who'd like to continue this can do so. I'm just
having so much trouble writing a "lemon" (in what sense?),
and I have too little skill and background on mob-, dark-,
or simply gritty-fics. Sorry for the inconvenience.
