Well,
I was suffering more of that insomnia, and saw a number of posts asking
why there weren't any fan fic's out there focusing on Marmalade Boy. That
got me to thinking, there were a number of great characters in that series,
many of whom were left in positions of unresolved conflict: Kei, Suzu-chan,
Anju, Michael, and especially, Miwa.
For a number of reasons I focused on Miwa. He had tried his damnedest
to get, IMHO, the most attractive female of the whole cast as his partner.
And he almost succeeded. He seems to have it all from the outside: wealth,
looks, talents, and popularity. But I had the impression that he was
actually a rather sad character, joking at the world to keep despair away.
His father is a philanderer who can't even be bothered to pretend shame at
his behavior, his mother is never looked at, but she stayed with his father,
and his friends seem to be kept at a distance. And he lost his girl to a
teacher. He was shown on his way to Toryu's university, but no signs of
having healed, nor of being anymore comfortable with himself. And he was
definitely looking forward to the idea of getting out of his old crowd, and a
chance to meet new people. Girls especially.
I thought about him for some time. This was a character whom I liked,
and whom I believed had been short changed by the original MB plot. I wanted
to see if I could match him with any characters that I could think of. While
I was thinking about this, I also was reading and posting to the "Feeling a
little hentai thread." This brought up one of my favorite characters from MI
to mind: Yagami. Once I thought of these two together it seemed obvious.
Yagami has much of the inner control and determination that made Meiko such
an interesting character. And, unlike Meiko, her infatuation with her
Sensei, ended rather bitterly from her point of view. I can see her
transfering to a university that was in a different area than her friends and
schoolmates, just to escape reminders that "normal" life would give her of
Godai-sensei.
And a lonely Miwa seems somehow ideal to work on bringing a bitter
Yagami back from her infatuation with Godai. I like the idea, but I have a
number problems with it. First and foremost is I only have so much free time
(Especially once I start getting 7-8 hours of sleep a day again.) and I hav
two ongoing series that I am trying to write, and a recent additional story,
a sequel of sorts to someone else's fic. (this should be out within the
week. The final draft will be going to the origianl author for C&C and
approval today.) My plate is full.
I have put this idea out for two reasons. First, if anyone else out
there wants to do it, I would be glad to see it done, and all I would have to
do is sit back and watch as it gets written.
I don't expect that to happen, though. *sigh*
On the other hand, if I get enough positive feedback from this idea
posting, I will try to find a way to write it myself. Not my ideal solution,
but if I know that there is an audience for it I will write it.

Anyhow, please let me know what you think.
