To answer your first question, yes, the Admin tag is
normally for WW only. I've been given the authority to use it.

In the past few days, there have been a number of
destructive threads, an almost record number of people
quitting due to the spamload, and problems in list function
resulting partly from traffic. This state of affairs has
become intolerable, and steps have been taken. The FFML, as
of now, is semi-moderated.

What does this mean? Not a whole lot, really. You will
continue to post as you normally would, and messages will
be sent to the list without needing to be approved. But now,
you will be both expected and required to adhere to the rules
regarding spam.

What is spam? Tough question. Let's first deal with what
_isn't_.

   * C&C. This is NOT spam. C&C as much as you like, and more
power to you.

   * Fics. Well, duh.

   * Fic ideas. As a forum for authors of anime fanfiction,
this is an appropriate and often productive type of post. A lot
of good fics have come from this.

   * Amusing/informative essays or pieces which touch on
writing or anime.

The following is spam.

   * "Me toos" of any ilk. Private mail, people. It has already
been said.

   * Things which have nothing whatsoever to do with anime
or writing.

   * Fic requests. Mail these to the author, guys. If you don't
know the e-mail addy of the author, ask around via private. If
you still don't know, then post.

   * Character debates that have dragged on for way too long
and are now getting redundant, C&C threads which have
mutated into something different, and other such beasties.

   * Lots of other things. You should know what they are.

The following are not only spam, but evil spam that shouldn't
be on the list under any circumstances.

   * Test messages. Read the damn faq. If you want to see if
you've been unsubbed, post a bit of C&C to the list. Not that
this would tell you any more than a test message would, but
it's not doing to get you banned, either. If you think you've
been unsubbed... hell, read the faq.

   * Chain letters. Can you say, "Instant banning"? I knew you
could.

   * Off-topic and really annoying and touchy threads.
Remember the Evolution thread? The people on that should
thank their lucky stars it happened before moderation.

   * Flames. If you really need to be a jerk, please don't share
it with us.

   * Posts intended for no other purpose than to produce more
spam. "What was the first book you ever read? Please spam."

So, does this mean spam is forbidden? No. If it were, we
might as well move to RAAC. It means that you are to limit
your posting. If your spam ratio is higher than your C&C/fic
ratio, you are breaking the limit.

When I think you're overdoing it, I'll warn you. Continue,
and you get the Nastier Warning. Keep going, and temporary
bans and permanent bans start coming into play.

I will be giving authors and high-quality C&Cers more
slack than others. Why? Because, quite frankly, I'd hate to
lose them. I don't particularly care if a person who
contributes nothing and spams often gets booted.

   In short, behave or leave.

This may sound nasty and strict, and some of you may wish
to wail about tyranny and other such things. Sorry. I am not
doing this because I get a kick out of pushing people around. I
don't _want_ this job; it's a waste of my valuable time. It's
being done because people have proven that they cannot
follow the rules with threat of punishment. I'm in a foul
mood about this, so don't expect sympathy.

Post fics, C&C, and spam within reasonable limits, and
you'll have no problems.

   Have a nice day.
