4.Fleshed-Out Ranma Secondary Characters: Another possibilty, one
I've recently discovered can by quite interesting, is to take a minor or
one-shot character from the series and develop him or her into something
more interesting. Construct a full personality for Hiroshi, or flesh out
Tsubasa's background, as an example. This has the advantage of allowing
the writer to create an almost-original character to work with, without
drawing the immediate annoyance many readers have with author-created
characters.
As for relative power-levels - well, if the character was
originally a one-shot, there's probably a reason for it. Tsubasa had
goofy disguise and minor martial arts abilities, but nothing intering
enough to endure; Hiroshi is a recuring, but side-line character who can
mainly be classified as a minor. It would probably be a mistake to have
them suddenly manifest awesome fighting abilities, or whatever...
I just mention it 'cus, as I said, I suddenly found out that
using Hiroshi could be an interesting excercise - and I think i'd be neat
if someone were to further develop certain characters - like Kumon Ryu,
for instance, or, heck, even delve into the life of a Furikan regular
like Sayuri...
Hope this has been of some help....
<nod> Interesting, too. Hope my little addition helped, too.
