Ranma hated offices. Offices were for sitting and waiting. He
liked to be moving and doing. Besides, growing up, he'd never been in an
office unless he was in trouble or injured.
He supposed this could be classified under the first category.
Ranma stared at the wall for a bit. It was no more interesting
now than half an hour ago. The one piece of art seemed specifically
designed to be too ugly to admire but not ugly enough to prevent
boredom. The ceiling and carpet likewise failed to engage his interest.
He decided to look at the others for a while. Souun had
apparently found the one old magazine in the office worth reading. Then
again, the Tendou father could stretch the morning newspaper into a full
day's experience.
Kasumi and Akane were knitting. Kasumi's project was a scarf,
and Ranma had no idea about Akane's, though it looked a bit better
connected together than the last thing she'd made. She looked up
annoyedly at him, and he gave a nervous smile back. It was obvious Akane
was blaming *him* for this. She blamed him for everything, it seemed.
The botched wedding had been the last straw, really. The
neighborhood association had gotten together and arranged this. Not that
Ranma could really blame them. *Something* had had to be done. If only
this stupid waiting could be over with!
Nabiki, ever the smart one, had brought her accounting homework
(rather more practical than most students') and a trashy novel. Looked
like she was about halfway through the paperback. Ranma was almost
desperate enough to rent it from her when she was through, despite the
unpromising title of "Love's Purple Passion."
Nodoka was attempting needlepoint while making sure the family
katana didn't slip away. Nor was she about to let her husband slip away
either. Genma had finally given up trying to invent excuses to leave the
room.
Ranma smirked a bit. It looked like Pops was going to need an
actual toilet break soon...
Back to the wall. Nope, still not interesting. He didn't care
how embarrassing this was any more. He just wanted the waiting to be over!
The door at the far end opened, and the secretary called,
"Saotome Ranma? You're up."
At last! Ranma's spirits almost rose. He walked as slowly as he
dared to the door that said....
FAMILY COUNSELING
Not necessarily coming soon!
SKJAM!
