Well, this is the thing. Every time I get kicked from the FFML, it's not for
messages bouncing off my account, but -messages I send- bouncing off
somebody's full-up mail cache or somesuch. Nothing I can do about it, but
-I'm- the one who gets kicked off.
It's a bug in the mailer software. It's happened to me many times, and
to many others I've talked to. I'm sure WW will do what he can about it.
It is, and I can try one thing. Dunno if it'll work.
Since this is being caused by a certain subscriber's ISP's reaction to
large posts, if WW's software can tell him who has sent the unsubscribe
messages, perhaps he could send out a test 100k+ file and see which
domains attempt to unsubscribe him and boot anyone on the list from those
domains. (Hmm, perhaps that's the fix he's talking about, telling the
software to ignore requests to unsubscribe that do not come from the email
address being unsubscribed and pass them on to him, but that ends up
leaving him stuck with another pile of work and defeats the idea of
automating the mailing list - yeesh, it's a wonder ML moderators manage to
stay as pleasant as they do :).
I don't mean to be nasty to the poor soul stuck on which ever ISP it is,
but the thought that some sysadmin not on the mailing list and not with my
ISP can arbitrarily unsubscribe me from a mailing list I'm on without my
permission (well, besides WW and the list's moderators, it's their mailing
list and they can do as they please :) makes me very angry. <ascends the
soapbox> This is America! Things like that aren't suppose to happen here!
