the device is nice, but look at it this way:
give a gun to a knight in the medievel ages.
Hey, he'll squeeze off six shots, but after that
it's useless.
Now, explain to him how to make more guns
and the ammunition with it, and it becomes
something else entirely.
The traditional example of this principle, as I recall, went something
like this:
If you give a man a fish, he will be fed for a day;
if you *teach* a man to fish, he will be fed for a lifetime.
It's the same principle at work.
