Ranma/Sliders crossover...
Instead of sliding into different dimenstions, they slide into
different fics. They attain whatever powers or abilities they should
have at that point in the story (Sam style) and must live, love and
survive in the three days they have in each story.
Really the concept is more like Quantum Leap than Sliders, down to
the dead people acting as "holograms" for the others. "Hello, my name
is Happosai and I'll be your hologram for the... OH NO! How will I
touch the girlies?!"
Heh, that is a fic idea in itself. There is one basic thing that makes
this more of a Slide then a Leap, that is the roll of the travelers. In
a Leap style setting, the characters are expected to "clean-up" the
areas they visit. Most of the time is spent in getting used to the new
surroundings, find out the situiation and nuetralizing it with the
reward of a consequetive Leap. In Sliders, the participants really don't
have to do anything. They arrive, they try and survive and then they
leave. The story resolves more around the characters and their reactions
to the new worlds then any actual inforced goal.
They have three days to explore and get reacquainted with the locals,
re-meet old friends, try to figure out just what went wrong in their
various lives, and then... when it's finally all coming together, they
are ripped away and thrown into a new situation. WILL they try and save
the world while they are there? Of course but can they? And in fact,
SHOULD they? There's alot mor focus on the actual travelers and just
what their lives have become.
One notes though that Sam never picked up any abilities from his hosts,
and I don't really think that these guys should either. Let 'em
get by with the off-the-rack special attacks, although bodies who
don't have them should probably be knocked out by the exertion of
using them.
That's pretty much what I meant. Imagine Ryouga getting depressed in my
"Suicide Blast" stories. The shot he just fired could have annihalated a
city block and why was his chest feeling so tight? <Ryouga falls as
Ranma and Co. scrammble around trying to help> Plus, I like the idea of
them having to constanly adapt to new curses. Think of the pain of
visiting SKJAM's "No Fair" world.
Ranma: How many times must he save the world? How many curses must he
endure? How many times must he win Akane's heart? How many times will he
loose her again as the portal beckons?
And how would the 17-year-old Ranma handle the 25 year-old Akane from
"The Bitter End?" <shudder>
Without any forewarning? I think he'd die and do so gladly rather then
face that version of her. This interaction is one of the reasons I
DIDN'T make her one of the travelers. Plust the thought of Ranma getting
SOOOOOOO close and yet so far away from her would be interesting.
Ukyo: Tethered to Ranma, what is her role in his life every slide? Why
must he always go after Akane? How long till he sees she is the only
constant? Can she hold out?
That's true. Never yet seen an Ukyou in any fanfiction who holds
her grudge against Ranma after their first encounter.
It'll probably get Blade's approval, that's for sure ^_^
Ryouga: He's been lost before but NEVER this lost. Thousands of Akanes
and so few any for his own. Never knowing his place and the hearts of
those he meets. Is he the hero this time? Or the darkest villian? Why is
he CONSTANTLY married to Ukyo? Where was that stupid portal again?
I've got a lot of sympathy for Ryouga. I like him too much to approve
of any fiction where he gets Akane. He just doesn't deserve that kind
of abuse.
And what of the fun when he really DOES get his life's dream... and it
turns out to be a nightmare. Nothing against Akane, but remember we're
talking about FanFic Akane, very scary!
No, I don't hate Akane (the Bitter End aside). But Ryouga needs
someone more sensitive to his feelings. Akane has a lot sympathy
for the underdog, but she hurts people thoughtlessly and Ryouga's
self esteem is too fragile.
Agreed, you need alot of strength and knowledge of pain to stay with
Ryouga and not end up hurting him. Very few Ranma characters make the
cut.
Happosai: The professor and endulger of vices and giver of ancient
perverse lore.
Closer to Doctor Smith than Professor Arturo. On the other hand
they obviously aren't from the main Ranma line, so Happosai could
be a more intelligent and helpful hentai. Or you could just give
a version of Cologne the job.
Doctor Smith? MY GOD! INSPIRATION! Anyway, I just like the irony. No,
we don't sky topless while smoking dope around here so itonies a go!
Thanks for your time and your well thought out comments.
