Why do people (violently) like some Ranma characters and (violently)
dislike the ones who oppose him/her?
Because it has good characters that are easy to relate to.

Why do people write so much Ranma fanfiction?
Because the characters are easy to write, because the story is quite
flexible and can be changed (unlike, say, Fushigi Yuugi, where you'd have
to retell *everything* to change a small point), and because there is no
universally-accepted-match-of-characters.
