There has been mention of a couple of difficulties in avoiding the
problem of attachments:
1. Breaking large fics or fic chapters into chunks can be time
consuming, and there's no guarantee everyone will get all the parts.
2. There are quite a few people who either can't read attachments at
all, or have a lot of trouble reading them. There's one person who
has stated that she cannot read enclosures.
3. Several people have email programs with size limits on the text
buffers, usually around 32k.
Here's a question that I'd like either private responses to, or
responses to the Spam list. (ffml-d@universal-net.com) PLEASE DO NOT
REPLY TO THE FFML, this thread has gone on long enough. Who out there
knows of an email client for Windows (3.1 or 95, although in my case I'd
prefer long filename support) that has a lot of features, and supports a
large text buffer? Something on the order of 100-200k would be nice.
For UNIX users, there's pine, which (so far as I know) does not have a
size limit. I'm using pine right now, from work. If I absolutely had
to, I'd send all of my large fics through pine, although I'd lose the
nice GUI interface of Pegasus (which is what I'm using now at home). I
also have a large address list that's constantly being added to, and I'd
rather keep that feature as well. And of course, I have tons of mail
folders with tons more saved mail sitting in them, and attempting to
move all of that to another mail program might strain my sanity
somewhat. Even so, I'd much rather not lose audience to people who
don't like attachments or enclosures.
