Prologue 1: Dream of an Angel Rei Ayanami was dreaming. Not that this is an unusual fact, for all living things dream at one time or another. But, maybe because of Rei's life, her dreams were a bit...unusual. At some point every night, she would be reliving memories of her former lives. Of course, she had been rejecting those memories, believing that they were foreign, taking up space reserved for her own conscious mind, her own individuality. Normally, she would have no problems with this. But despite any possible objections, that night, her "memories" sped past her at a rate that a conscious mind could barely tolerate: --Her "death" at the hands of Dr. Akagi. --Meeting Shinji and Auska. --Numerous Angel attacks --Commander Ikari --Her "second death" when she destroyed Eva-00 to protect Shinji On that night, Rei remembered something new. --"It smells like Ikari-kun." --"We have seen the world through each other's eyes." *Where did that come from?* Rei thought in suprise. The last image she recognized was a pair of glasses that then were crushed by some unseen force. Then everything was covered in a silver-white glare. When the glare faded, Rei was looking at ruins of some sort. The sky was pitch black, with stars shining everywhere. Around her were the aforementioned ruins stretching out to the horizon, which was barren and craggy, much unlike Earth' s green and brown colorings. "Where am I?" Rei said, looking around. "This must be Earth, but how?" An insight came to her. "The Human Complementation Project. Somehow, this has to be the aftereffects on the Earth." "It is not, although you are close." Another v oice suddenly said. Rei turned around. "Who is there?" "That is not important now." The voice replied. "But remember this well. For this is the past of one age, the present of another age, and the future of another age will be born here." To say that Rei was puzzled would be a grand understatement. "I do not understand. Who are you?" The voice came back, this time sounding slightly disappointed. "You don't need to understand now, although I had hoped you might. Just remember this, Rei Ayanami, that the future of the human race may be in it's darkest hour. You have a choice: To save the human race, or to lead it on a one way path to extinction." "But the Project is to evolve humanity..." Rei said. "Yes, to a form that is void of the qualities that make humans special. My time grows short. The choice is yours. Choose wisely, Rei Ayanami....." And with that the voice faded away . Rei was looking around for the source of that voice when an object appeared in front of her. "A white rose?" She said. "Here?" She touched the rose, and the glare filled her reality again...... And Rei woke up. Auska Langley Soryu woke up, dreaming of a white rose. "Damn that Angel...." She muttered as she went back to sleep. Toji Suzuhara woke up after dreaming of a white rose. He promptly went back to sleep. Shinji Ikari woke up after having nearly the same dream. But his was different. In his dream, a beautiful princess said: "You are destined to play a part in mankind's future. Remember that in the days to come." The other thing different about his dream was that in it, there had been a white rose as well, but it had been Rei who was holding that rose. And she was *smiling*...... And he woke up. "Must have been Misato's cooking again." He muttered, and went back to a troubled sleep. ----Somewhere else--- "She doesn't remember." Someone said in despair. "Don't worry," another voice said, "she will in time. And then everything will be alright, you'll see." The speaker looked somewhere else. "Now, Wasshu," she said, "are you sure these devices won't mess up the entire time-space continuum. I still remember the mess I had to clean up after that disaster with your Dimensional Time-Space Cont roller!" "Hey relax, Pluto!" Wasshu said. "These Time Displacement Generators will work like a charm! Remember that you're dealing with the greatest genius in the universe!" The puppets popped out to either side of Wasshu. "You are the greatest, Wasshu!" Puppet A said. "The greatest in the universe!" Puppet B said. Sailor Pluto thought, Giving the third being in the room reassurances, Sailor Pluto-the Guardian of Time-stepped through a time portal, carrying a large satchel.... Next time: What is Pluto doing with those generators? And what will it mean for the Senshi and the Crystal Knights? Find out in "Setting The Stage" The next story in the Destiny's Path series! The world will never be the same........... ------Author's Notes (or: What the heck is this???)------ There you have it, my first completed fanfic. This is only a prologue to a series I'm going to be doing in the near future, so that's why it's so short. Now to the questions: When? In Eva, sometime after the episode "Rei III" The second quote before the main dream scene is not an episode quote, but a quote from the fanfic "Two Hearts of One Mind" by the Scriviner. It's a great fic, and one of the main sources of inspiration for this story. Thanks Scriv...:-) The "prophecy" in the dream? That will become apparent later on, although Sailor Moon fans *might* be able to figure it out..... The princess: Since this is a Eva/SM crossover, take one guess. :-) Who are the Crystal Knights? You'll find out....heh, heh, heh.... Why is Toji in this story? I feel that he got a bum rap his first time out as an EVA pilot, so he's getting a second chance. You don't like it, sue me. :-) A white rose? That, again, will become apparent later on. Anyone who says "Moonlight Knight" will be Booted In The Head, hit with a dimensional hammer, and be fired upon with a Chicken Cannon. Why is this being done? I took a look at a spoiler page for the movie "End of Evangelion," and what I saw there...disturbed me, to say the least. Consider this series an "alternate universe" to that ending. Who is that voice? No comment. All further questions will be directed to the gentleman in the black suit.... Legalese.....
