Interlude: History

Notes:  This fic reality assumes that Sailor Moon Super S and Stars didn't
happen.  It also assumes the Ice Age that everyone was talking about was
the freezing of the world that happened in the Sailor Moon S movie.

...the true effect of the battle with the Ice Princess was not known at the
time, yet it soon became clear that the course of human history had been
changed.

Even though Neo-Queen Serenity (then Sailor Moon) had reversed the effects
of the artificial Ice Age the Ice Princess had caused, it took many decades
for the ice to fully retreat from the world.  In fact, the eco-system was
not considered to be fully recovered from its trauma until the mid
twenty-first century.

The world map was mostly unchanged by the ordeal, except for the creation
of Crystal Tokyo off the eastern coast of Japan.  Overnight, a huge city
appeared, and people from all over the world felt the call to come be a
part of it.

This was not taken idly by the current powers of the time.  China and the
United States each tried to take control of the city, but found much to
their dismay that they were clearly outclassed by the unknown power of King
Endymion, Neo-Queen Serenity, and the Sailor Senshi.  The attempts only
ceased after an enraged China attempted to use a nuclear weapon on Crystal
Tokyo, and Neo-Queen Serenity used the power of the artifact known as the
Ginzuishou for the first time.  Seconds before impact, the missile was
simply destroyed.

In retaliation, King Endymion released the full power of his link with the
planet.  All over the world, hundreds of micro-quakes suddenly occured, and
thousands of nuclear missles were destroyed as their silos were swallowed
up by the Earth.  King Endymion proclaimed his global interdict on the
manufacture, use, or possession of nuclear weapons.

This was the first step in the creation of the Monarcy of the Earth.  After
long periods of negotiation with the United Nations, it was decided that
all nations would acknowledge King Endymion as King of the Earth, on the
provision that he stayed out of internal affairs of individual nations,
unless a situation came up that required his intervention.

Unfortunately, such situations were limited to events that had an impact on
the global scale.  Nations still bickered, and fought, and the world
continued in much the same way it had been since the Twentieth Century.

...one of the most unique political entites in the political map of the
third millenium is Crystal Tokyo.  The capitol of the Monarchy of Earth,
Kind Endymion rules from his palace here.  However, the actual city of
Crystal Tokyo is an independant city-state ruled by his wife, Neo-Queen
Serenity, and her lieutenants, the Sailor Senshi.

One of the reasons for it's uniqueness is the simple fact that the ruler
and other important heads of state are, as far as the scientific community
can tell, immortal.  How exactly this is achieved is unknown, since
Neo-Queen Serenity insists that it is magic.  Wary of the dangers that
immortality can bring, Sailor Pluto (the oldest being on the planet, with
an unconfirmed lifespan of more than 15000 years) aided the Senshi in
finding roles that would not cause them to stagnate.  

Sailor Mercury (Lady Ami Mizuno) is now known as one of the leading
researcher in medical sciences.  She is credited with finding the first
true vaccine for the AIDS virus.  Sailor Venus (Lady Minako Aino) became
the ambassador for the city-state, and has spent numerous terms as the
Secretary General of the United Nations.  Sailor Jupiter (Lady Makoto Kino)
took charge of her country's military power, and is often 'borrowed' by
King Endymion for peacekeeping duties.  Sailor Mars (Lady Rei Hino) is
Chamberlain and personal assistant to Neo-Queen Serenity.

Yet more curious is the fate of the so-called "Outer Senshi."  The
mysterious Sailor Pluto (Lady Setsuna Meiou) seemingly disappeared off the
face of the planet.  Rumors state she is guarding some device known as the
Time Gate.  Sailors Uranus and Neptune (Lord Haruka Ten'ou and Lady Michiru
Kaiou) became well known freelance troubleshooters, two of the most
respected law enforcement officers on the planet.  In the mid-twenty-second
century, they picked up the nickname 'The Dirty Pair', after a series of
escapades that seemed to consistenly end up with large amounts of
collateral damage.  They are also popular musical talents, having several
albums which have gone platinum.  Sailor Saturn has yet to re-emerge from
her self-imposed exile after her rebirth.
