First, I'd like to say thank you and you're welcome to everyone
who responded to my previous message about the sound archive with the
anime files.
Next, I'd like to say something to everyone who DID write a letter
to me about it, but I don't want to bore the rest of you to tears. So, I'm
putting some spoiler space in here, and feel free to skip this letter.
Okay.. that should be enough. Quite a few of you have asked why I
can't simply run mpeg3's.. or why I don't get a more powerful computer..
why I'm staying with an Amiga 500, an 8 year old computer that uses a flat
7 Mhz 68000 chip for a CPU.
Well, this is going to sound like a sob-story, damnit, but I can't
figure any other way to say it.
I'm using a snip from a letter I wrote to the Lurker, as it seems
the simplest way to do things.

Poor guy...get a new computer, fast. Amigas don't cut it these days.
Besides, it's worth it, even just for something that can handle MP3s...CD

I can't, Rob.
When Mom died, the insurance company started fighting about paying
off her policy. So I'm taking care of my garage apartment, her house, the
land both homes are on, property taxes, gas and electricity bills, her
cat, my dogs, and all other the bills left behind from her passing. I'm
trying to do all of this on a less than $600 a month disability pension.
My father? Well, he dealt with his grief by running away. I
haven't heard from him in over 6 weeks.
I don't even have transportation any longer, as he took the car,
too.
A new computer is _entirely_ out of the question. I couldn't even
purchase a new modem when my old Best Data Smart One 14.4 Ex fried itself.
I had to depend on an old 2400 until Zen and Salomon Farin each donated a
used 14.4 to keep me up and running.
*shrug* That's why I'm looking for one of the Ani-Mayhem cards.
They are hard to get out here, and someone who knew I hang with the FFML
asked me if I could find him one thru my contacts with the list. In
return, he's offered me a used 486/33. *IF* I can find him an 'Akane's
Cooking' Ani-Mayhem card.. *sigh*
If not, when the Amiga 500 dies, I'm off the web and off the list.
Such is life.

That's about the size of things at present. It may change, but I
doubt it. Firehawke has offered me an old laptop w/ no HD and no modem, if
I can pay the shipping, so I'm going to eat ramen for a week or two and
scrimp up the shiping costs. That's what I do to buy my anime, it should
work for this, too.
It's a good thing I bought most of my stuff (like the convention
tickets and hotel room reservations) before Mom got ill. *shrug* I really
wanted to cash them in and spend the money on her, but she got angry with
me when I tried. Told me that I had to 'carry on with my own life' after
she was gone. Whatever that means.
Well.. guess that's all I have to say. I didn't realize that the
un-mpeg'ed files would be quite that large. Don't bother yourselves, it'd
just be too much trouble to unpack and mail them.
You all take care, and I'll keep writing.
