a battle training tactic than any real desire to see her have a good

Well, this I agree with.  I don't have a very high opinion of the 
original Queen Serenity, as you may have seen in "The Price of Heaven". 
 And her portrayal here - as a person who is trying to make sure first 
that her kingdom will be reborn, and only second that her daughter is 
happy, is consistent with her anime portrayal.  Can't speak for the 
manga, haven't read too much of it.

So, the writing style just didn't seem to work, to me,

and Serenity just didn't seem to be all that likeable, again, to me.

That's okay.  She's got her good points and bad points.  Just like us 
all.  :)

Shrug. That's just the way it goes. People like, people don't.

Baka.  :)  Go ahead and feel free to say you didn't like it, but don't 
be defensive about it.  You're allowed - nay, *encouraged* - to express 
your opinion when you don't think something works in one of my fanfics. 
 It's what the FFML is all about, after all.
