Last time I looked, they did not have the money to produce -any- new
animation. In fact, they did not produce the -original- animation; the
Robotech series was cobbled together from three different Japanese
television series. Finally, if there were interest for a re-release of
Robotech, I believe that Harmony Gold would be more than happy to do so.

If you feel a petition will do some good, feel free. For my part, if I
wanted Robotech returned to the TV screen, I would petition the local PBS
station, Sci-Fi Channel, or Cartoon Network to pick up the broadcast rights.

Actually, Red, until quite recently Robotech WAS on the Sci-Fi
channel. It occupied a half-hour section in their 2 hour 'Cartoon Quest
(later named the Animation Station)' programming block early in the
morning on weekdays.. Robotech, The New Gigantor, Transformers, The Bionic
Six, Droids/Ewoks, Terrahawks and the like, on a rotating basis.

Sometime around September they canceled that particular block of
programming, and replaced it with standard sci-fi shows. (At the moment?
The Incredible Hulk, and one other I don't recall. <pages go flipflipflip
in this months programming guide.> Ah, Yes. Voyage to the Bottom of the
Sea.)

Perhaps, rather than a petition to the makers of anime.. a
petition to the Sci-Fi channel. They have a LARGE block of time late
between midnight and 6 am that they fill with infomercials. With luck,
mayhap they could be persuwaded to fill at least _some_ of that with anime
again? They already have their Saturday Anime movies.. and the yearly
week-long Anime Festival. If enough interest was shown in the form of a
petition, they might put on Ranma, or Tenchi Muyo, or show Bubblegum
Crisis as a limited series...

And one other thing. We'll all seem to forgotten that the Sci-Fi
channel is a _CABLE_ channel. which mean they can get away with showing a
little skin, provided it's NOT shown duting hours when kids are watching.
Recent court cases in many states seem to uphold the attitude that it's
all right to show PG-13 and _MILD_ R rated stuff (brief nudity, strong
violence) if it's shown 'on cable' and _after_ midnight. A lot of anime
could be shown with being censored by using those rules. I don't know
about others, but I'd be willing to stay up late to see uncut Ranma 1/2.
Hell.. air it at 2 am, even. No children would be awake, and I'd break a
finger to program my VCR to catch it.

But they'll only do this IF we show enough interest.

Just my (admittedly not too bright) $0.02.
