PM Productions Presents
A Phillip Masters Fanfic
Of Death and Love
NOTE: This is angsty and an alternative to the end of Evangelion.
She is gone.
Even now, staring down at her prone form, he can not believe it.
He doesn't want to believe. He tries and hold himself together, tries
to keep his feelings seperate from his life. He is expected to, he is
ordered to. However, how can he? How can he push aside his humanity at
just a simple word? It can't be done, not really. As he is finding out
at this very moment.
He leans down and flicks aside a strand of her gorgeous purple
hair. She is so peaceful and serene. Death leaves a person in total
peace, their bodies receiving the rest it deserves. He takes one of her
slim hands into his own. Her skin is still so soft under his touch, but
unnaturally cold. A tear slides down his cheek as he recalls the
incredible warmth from those same hands. Be it from a gentle touch, or
a forceful slap. More tears trail down his face as he realizes that he
will never feel either ever again.
"She died an honorable death, Ryouji."
He turns on that voice. The voice responsible for everything. The
voice that belongs to the most insane individual on the face of the
planet. This is a man who wants to destroy humanity. Though his
intentions may be all for the good, he is misleading himself. He will
annihilate us all just to fulfill his own dream. I work for an
orginization who is supposed to be keeping tabs on this megalomaniac.
To make sure he doesn't actually do damage to the way things are. This
being true, shoudn't I stop him?
"Gendou, you killed her." he stated simply, lifting his standard
issue pistol up to point straight between the man's eyes. "Yes, she
died an honorable death. However it was pointless, and caused by a
dishonorable man."
Gendou, as usual, has on those glasses of his. The lenses darkened
so one can not see the apathetic insanity behind them. Yet, he can see
it. As he looks down the barrel of his weapon, he can see into the
man's soul. He sees that the man is not afraid. The man thinks he is
immortal, and is trying his hardest to make it a self-fulfilling
prophesy. Well, that's not going to happen. He pulls the trigger.
The glasses are shattered, their middle support broken by the
bullet. A hole appears in Gendou's head, right at the bridge of his
nose. His eyes betray a small amount of shock as the life drains from
them.
The man falls, that same look locked onto his face. He smiles
slightly as he realizes Death has not granted him the same serenety the
rest of the deceased get. He will live forever, tortured by, and for,
what he has done.
He turns back to the woman he would have done anything to save.
The woman he tried to save, under the guise of trying to save the human
race. He has failed. He has failed both. Yet, it only hurts because
he failed her.
He reaches down and places a hand under her head. He lifts her up
and places her in his lap softly. He leans his back against the wall
and slowly rubs her hair. He thinks of all the good times they shared
together, and the bond of friendship they had gained. It sends an ache
through his soul that he could never tell her how he truly felt.
Yet, perhaps he would get another chance? Maybe, the other side
would be revealed as such? Yes, he would hold on to that belief, and
die content. He has done all he can do, and he lost. The whole race
has lost. Could it be that this is the way it was meant to be? Was
this planet marked for extermination by a higher power? Could there
have been a notice somewhere around Alpha Centauri, stating the tragic
event?
No one would ever know, for they are all gone now.
END
That was just a wee bit angsty maybe... hmmm... anyway, I haven't seen
anywhere near the end of Evangelion, so this is more an alternative
ending. I don't know, it was just something I wanted to write...
comment away, and thanks for reading.
