    I Don't Want To Cry
    A Neon Genesis Evangelion Fanfic

Inspired by the ROmantic Mode song of the same name


 Dr. Akagi Ritsuko walks down a corridor of Terminal Dogma, slowly. It
was after hours at NERV, and no one else could be seen. She turns a
corner, down a dimly lit hallway. A guard stops the young doctor at her
point of entry, asking for identification. She gives it to him, running
a hand through her newly bleached hair, and noting that she needed to
take a new picture for her NERV ID, for her hair was still brown, like
that of her mother's. The guard looks at Dr. Akagi for a second, taking
in her sophisticated beauty, and then slides her ID through the card
reader. The screen came up, "Akagi Ritsuko, E Project." She was to be
Ikari Yui's replacement. Yui had recently died in an Evangelion pilot
synchronization, and her mother had sent for her.
 "Very well, you may pass." The guard steps out of Ritsuko's way, and
she walks quietly through the door. After a couple of steps, however,
she hears her mother's muffled voice.
 "But, Gendou, I'm in love with you..." Dr. Akagi Naoko breathes out,
bending over Ikari Gendou, who was sitting in NERV's version of a Lazy
Boy, and kisses him squarely on the lips. Gendou simply sits there, eyes
open, unmoving and not reacting, like a statue. Naoko blushes as she
passionately kisses him, and then she goes back to her regular work.
Ritsuko stands there with two of her own fingers on her lips.

 "And that was when I fell in love with that bastard..." Ritsuko says to
herself, watching Gendou and the naked Rei III in Central Dogma in front
of the huge being called Lillith. She pushes a few buttons on her
laptop, receiving a positive response from Balthasar. "Rei I..."

 A few years later, Naoko and Ritsuko meets up with Gendou, and an 9
year old girl child. Naoko speaks, "Ah, Ikari. Is that Shinji-kun?"
 "No, Shinji is with some relatives. This is Ayanami Rei. I am watching
her as a favor to a friend." Gendou says.
 "Yoroshiku, Rei-chan!" Ritsuko says, bending down to Rei and smiling.
Rei says nothing.
 Later that day, they found Rei's strangled, lifeless little body near
the MAGI computers, which incidentally had just been completed. A
hallway down from the MAGI, they had also found Naoko's bloody body, for
she had shot herself for killing Rei. A few days later, Rei was being
shown around the Geofront. She was given her own apartment, and they had
started synchronization tests on her. She was Rei II.

 Ritsuko pushes a few more buttons, and receives another positive
response, but from Caspar. "Rei II..."

 Ayanami, pilot of Evangelion Unit 00, felt the Angel enter her body
through the Eva. It was snaking into her skin, worming into her body.
She held on to the control trigger for dear life, readying the positron
rifle. The Angel worked it's way up to her left arm. Rei cries out,
holding on to her arm, dropping the rifle. She hears Maya's voice on the
com set, "It's no good! We can't eject the entry plug, she's got it
jammed!" Rei feels a tear run out of her eye, and it dissipates within
the LCL. She thinks, �Why am I crying? Is it because I want to be with
Ikari-kun? Then, in order to save him, I must do this..� She hears on
the com set, Maya�s voice again, �I can�t forcibly eject the entry plug,
she�s refusing the signal!� Misato�s voice: �Abort, Rei! You�ll die!�
Rei whispers as her Eva picks up a N2 bomb, �To save Ikari-kun...� The
bomb goes off, and Rei II is dead. Shinji yells out painfully, �No!!
Ayanami!!!�

 Dr. Akagi enters in the commands to be sent to the third MAGI
supercomputer, not waiting for the response. Looking at a surveillance
camera�s live feed, Ritsuko witnesses Misato giving a deep, long kiss to
Shinji, clutching her chest. She lets Shinji enter the elevator to get
to his Eva. Misato slumps to the ground, then shortly keels over. There
is blood all over Misato�s chest, back, and the wall behind her. Misato,
her oldest friend, is dead. She looks to Gendou and Rei III again, with
a tiny tear in her eye. Gendou says, �Rei, it is time for you to take us
into Lillith, and finish the Human Complement Program.�
 �No!� Gendou and Rei III look to Ritsuko in shock. �No! It won�t
happen, Gendou. This is wrong, and you know it! You know that this Human
Complement Program was the whole reason that those Angels were sent! You
know that this is the entire reason that so many people were killed!
And, I�m not going to let it happen!�
 �What have you done to stop me, Dr. Akagi?� Gendou says coolly.
 Ritsuko says, �I have programmed the MAGI system to self-destruct
NERV... oh,� she exclaims at the screen, �Oh no!� The third MAGI
computer had rejected her orders. Her mother had abandoned her for
Gendou.
 �Ritsuko... I loved you.�
 �Liar! I know that you love no one but Yui and your little doll. You
don�t even love your son!
 A shot rings out, piercing Ritsuko�s body. She falls into the pool of
LCL that was at Lillith�s base. Her last thoughts are: Mother, I never
cried for your death. But now, I�ll be with you... and Misato,
Ryouji...  my friends.

A bit angsty, eh? It�s my first non-lemon, and certainly not my last.
It�s a hell of a lot easier when you don�t have to write in all of the
sex! ^_^ For those of you who don�t know, all of the parts in this fic
are completely true. Sorry for spoiling it for you, but I did warn you!
