Well, I just finished watching the volume "Fate & Destiny," and couldn't
resist typing up a little bit of a fic. (I had to do something; I bawled
my way through the whole tape! {Of course, during the omake, I laughed
till I cried, but....}) If you haven't seen this volume yet, then be
forewarned; it contains a spoiler!! Just scroll down to read the fic.

Spoiler space....

More spoiler space...

That's enough space wasted; on with the fic1
Left in the Dark

a Blue Seed fanfic by jessica faith hardy

Disclaimer: *Blue Seed* is owned by Takada Yuzo, Takeshobo, ING/Production

I.G./Xebec/, Star Child, BS Project, etc. I don't have any claim to the
original manga or

anime (although I wish I did! ;)

This little viginette takes place the night right after the events in
episode 19, "Heat

Haze! Start on a Journey! Love, I'll Never be Far from You!," so it
contains major

spoilers for that ep only (with some exaggerations of my own, but hey,
that's what fic

writers are for, right?)!

The wind rustled the curtains of the bedroom window, blowing a few
stray

maple leaves into the darkened bedroom. A solitary figure uncurled from on
the bed

and trudged towards the small puddle of moonlight on the floor. She picked
up one

crimson leaf and, twirling it between two delicate fingers, and headed
over to the

window.

Two steps later she found herself face to face with the hardwood
floor.

Momiji pushed herself up into a sitting position, reaching for the
outstretched,

black-gloved hand that wavered just in front of her; she could hear faint
chuckling in

front of her, see the flapping edge of a red trenchcoat as it waved in the
wind....

She blinked twice, and the faint, smiling image of Kusanagi faded
into

nothingness, leaving the empty windowsill just above her head. "Oh,
no...," she

moaned. The teenaged Kushinada tossed the leaf aside and buried her head
in her

hands. "Why can't I get him out of my mind...?"

Her thoughts turned back through time, back to the office building
in Kogure

where she had dragged Kusanagi after he had been injured by that
cat-Aragami. They

had argued; she was on her feet, shouting after him as he began to walk
away from her.

He had turned back to her as she ranted on, tried repeatedly to interrupt
her, but to no

avail. "I love you!" she had finally shouted, "but you just don't care-"

And in one motion, Momiji had found herself swept up into a tight
embrace,

her body clutched against Kusanagi's. She could hear the rapid thumping of
his heart,

feel the incredible warmth of his skin even through the makeshift bandages
she had

wrapped around his chest, she could even smell the antiseptic she had put
on his

wounds and the faintest odor of sweat. A single, tiny drop of something
warm and wet

had suddenly splashed against her cheek. They remained embraced for an

indeterminate length of time, simply standing there, until he finally let
go. She had

looked up at him in amazement and hope; was it her imagination, or was
there a

shimmer of tears in his eyes? "Just give me a little time," he had finally
said, holding her

at arm's length. "When this is all over, I'll come back. I swear I'll come
back for you."

Momiji sighed, recollecting that single moment. "I've got to stop
worrying about

him," she whispered. "I have to... huh?"

She looked up at the windowsill; a single, perfect cherry blossom
rested on the

edge nearest her. Next to the flower, hanging on a bit of nail that was
hammered in

wrong, was a small scrap of heavy red fabric. She picked the two up and
cradled them

in one hand. The delicate scent of the blossom mingled with the familiar
scent of sweat

and mown grass from the bit of fabric. The teen smiled and leaned out her
bedroom

window, staring off into the horizon. "I love you, Kusanagi," she
breathed. "I'll be here,

waiting for you....."

She closed the window, never noticing the pair of slitted eyes
staring back at her

from the nearby foliage. "I promise I'll be back for you, Momiji," the
figure said softly

before melting away into the darkness.
